Cultural Event: Badan Warisan Malaysia

  • Badan Warisan Malaysia 2 Jalan Stonor Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, 50450 Malaysia (map)

Join us for a special cultural event this month and come on a guided walk through one of Kuala Lumpur's most quietly remarkable heritage sites. We'll be visiting Badan Warisan Malaysia, the country's leading heritage conservation trust, and touring Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman, a traditional Malay timber house that once stood in a small village in Kedah.

Built in stages between 1910 and the early 1930s, the house was originally home to a village headman before it was carefully dismantled, transported, and rebuilt on Badan Warisan's grounds in Jalan Stonor in the late 1990s. Today it stands as one of the finest surviving examples of Malay vernacular architecture — intricately carved timber, traditional layout, and a lush heritage garden surrounding it, all just steps from the high-rises of KLCC. Our guided tour will walk us through the house's history, its architecture, and the everyday life it was built for, from wedding customs to childhood games.

Date: Saturday, August 29, 2026
Meeting point: Badan Warisan Malaysia, No. 2 Jalan Stonor, Kuala Lumpur (nearest MRT: Conlay)
Time: 10:45am –– tour starts at 11am
Cost: 10RM for residents 17 and older | 5RM for residents under 17 | Free for children under 7 years

Spaces are limited, so please RSVP to secure your spot. As always, comfortable walking shoes are recommended, and we'll wrap up with time to explore the heritage garden at your own pace.

We're looking forward to sharing this piece of KL's history with you.

Charity Focus: Badan Warisan Malaysia
This month, we're supporting Badan Warisan Malaysia's roof conservation efforts at Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman. The roof is no longer keeping the rain out, and the building is now in a fragile state, so the trust is raising funds to carry out essential conservation work using traditional materials and techniques. We're collecting donations as a group, and tax receipts are available on request. To bring it to life, we're also hosting a special guided tour on Saturday, August 29th — a great chance to see the house up close and understand exactly what we're helping to protect.
