For this month’s AAM Lunch Bunch, we wanted to present something a little different and more authentic, so we’ve planned a South Indian banana leaf meal. Unfortunately, the place we originally listed as our location isn’t authentic. So we’re moving the venue.
Date: Friday, February 27, 2026
Time: 12pm - 2pm
Location: Maya @ Bangsar Banana Leaf, 21, Jln Telawi 3, Bangsar, 59100 Kuala Lumpur
A banana leaf meal is a classic South Indian dining tradition where a variety of curries, vegetables, rice, pickles, and crispy papadam are served on a fresh banana leaf. It’s colorful, flavorful, and meant to be enjoyed as a complete experience rather than separate dishes. Additionally, instead of everyone ordering individually, Shelby and Megan will pre-order the set for the table so we can all experience it properly.
If you want to be even more traditional, you can try eating with your hands! Here are some tips if you want to try this!
• Use your right hand only
• Mix small portions of rice with the curries using your fingertips
• Gently press into a small bite and use your thumb to guide it into your mouth.
Eating this way isn’t just cultural — it enhances texture, temperature awareness, and connection to the food. Of course, utensils will be available, but we encourage everyone to lean in and try the full experience at least once! 😊
